This piece explores how language barriers can fracture one’s sense of identity. The fragmented face, with each piece missing a key feature, reflects the loss and distortion that occurs when expression is limited by language. The background features a poem in my native language, Marathi, grounding the work in a specific cultural and linguistic context. This disconnect echoes a broader experience familiar across South Asian diasporas, where shifting between languages—often between a mother tongue and a colonial one—can create tension between belonging and alienation.
