At first glance, the gesture appears to be a traditional image of clasped hands in prayer. But on closer inspection, the fingers are not intertwined—instead, one hand gently holds the other. What initially seems like a religious act reveals itself as an intimate gesture of self-soothing. In this figural self-portrait, the artist uses her own hands as a vessel to convey a personal shift: moving away from seeking comfort and strength in external, spiritualized sources, and instead finding it within herself. Medium: Pencil on toned paper. Size: 9 x 12.
