Black Expression: Honoring Juneteenth Through Art
Montinique Monroe's Tribute to Juneteenth
$100000.00
It was an honor to photograph the artists behind the 5,000-square-foot 'Absolute Equality' mural commemorating Juneteenth in Galveston, Texas. From left: Creatives Dantrel Boone, Cherry Meekins, KaDavien Baylor, Reginald C. Adams, Samson Bimbõ Adenugba, and Joshua Bennett are pictured in front of the mural in Galveston on May 5, 2021. This mural marks the exact spot where Gen. Gordon Granger issued the orders that resulted in the freedom of more than 250,000 enslaved Black people in Texas on June 19, 1865 - two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
